Escape Station X

During a secret space experiment, an out-of-control alien broke through the containment, throwing the crew into chaos. The team must work together to solve three system challenges and reach the escape pod before the oxygen runs out. Success depends entirely on breaking isolation and communicating perfectly under pressure.

The part I like

One thing I particularly like about this project is that, for me, I'm being exposed to something brand new. At the same time, the difficulty is just outside my comfort zone and inside of my growth zone.

Challenges

We encountered a lot of technical problems. Because of these technical issues, we also had to change the original theme of our environment and story. Everyone in our group had to figure out how to use UEFN to build a playable and interactive game. We had also never experienced collaborating on a 3D project before. Of course, the final game testing took an incredible amount of time just to try to get everyone to successfully join.

Basically, whenever we ran into a problem, we would work together to solve it, so you can see for yourselves the great success we ultimately achieved.

A cooperative puzzle game developed in UEFN, where players work together to solve problems in order to leave the basement and board an escape submarine.

The Story Is...

Trapped in an outer space research base, players need to work together to solve puzzles and unlock the exit to board the evacuation ship through different areas of the base.

Value Generation

Our goal is to create value by using games as a medium for social connection — cooperation, trust, and coordination are essential in this game.

Core Mechanics

The game core mechanics focus on exploration, puzzle solving, and communication, guiding players to cooperate under time pressure to reach a shared escape goal.

Players' Roles

As researchers in the space laboratory, each player has their own role, and they can use their own expertise to help the team solve problems and provide assistance. Unfortunately, we don’t have enough time to study how to give each character their own unique skills.

Map And Path Design

I designed the map section. The initial idea was to have the map follow a one-way path through the entire process, and it needed to look very futuristic because this is a space lab.

This effect is really good. We can set up different puzzles or scenes in different rooms to give players a sense of immersion and make them enjoy exploring.

Core Conflict

Due to damage to the station, the escape shuttle bay has sealed itself. Players must solve 3 increasingly difficult puzzles to unlock the final escape hatch. Meanwhile, oxygen is running low, systems are failing, and the station becomes more unstable every minute. Time is the enemy.

Puzzle 1

The shuttle bay door has lost power after an alien-caused surge. The team must repair the power system to open the door.

In the Power Room, the team must solve two riddles to identify and reconnect the correct wires to restore power.

Puzzle 2

Once power is restored, the inner blast door in the Lab will only open with the correct weight. The team must bring escape supplies and pass inspections at this stage.

Players must calculate and find the correct objects and stand on the pad to match the required weight.

Puzzle 3

Players must collect three energy crystals and solve three riddles. These crystals are not only the energy keys to unlock the final gate, but also serve as fuel for flying.

In the Botany Lab, they must place the crystals in the correct order to unlock the final chamber.

The End

The team successfully reaches the escape shuttle!

If We Had More Time

Strengthen the narrative connection between each puzzle to create a smoother, more cohesive flow through the experience.

Improve clarity of clues and guidance so players understand objectives without feeling lost.

Conduct additional user testing to identify confusing steps, unclear logic, or pacing issues.

Improve game ending part. Right now, we're only using the final part of opening the door to show the escape being successful, but there's no follow-up shown.
